When life isn’t going the way you want, it’s easy to get stuck in a cycle of thinking that you need to do or have more. You think you need to:

  • Work harder
  • Have greater dedication or commitment
  • Push yourself to greater lengths (or maybe even to exhaustion)
  • Learn better time management
  • Find a better mate

If you’ve tried the above, let me ask, “How’s that working for you?”

Are you experiencing sustainable results while feeling energetic and fulfilled?

Better Is Better

If something isn’t working, doing more of it isn’t going to change anything. You can push all you want on a door that swings inward, but unless it breaks, it’s not going to budge.

More pushing won’t help. The amount of time you dedicate to pushing won’t help. Greater effort won’t help. Hanging a different door won’t help, either. You don’t need ‘more’ to open the door. You need ‘different.’

The Right Approach for The Challenge You’re Facing

We all sometimes push a door that has to be pulled to open. However, when the “door” is your relationship, finances, health, or another aspect of life, it’s not as easy to realize why you aren’t getting the results you want. Problems don’t come with “push” or “pull” signs.

Most of the time, you genuinely believe that whatever you’re trying to accomplish works a specific way despite all the evidence to the contrary.

That doesn’t mean that you are broken, but some of the stories you tell yourself and strategies you use may need to be updated—just like your computer software needs to be sometimes updated to continue running smoothly.

Opening Doors and Getting Unstuck

Fortunately, evaluating the stories you tell yourself doesn’t take years of counseling or introspection. There’s a process called Mindful Change that can find the areas where you’re stuck and free you from thinking that more is better so that you’ll be able to move forward in life.

You can read more about it on this blog or in my book, Same Shit Different Day.
